As per a legend, the Jade Emperor stated that the order of the zodiac animals will be decided by the order in which they will arrive at his party. The Ox was about to be the first to arrive, but Rat tricked Ox into giving him a ride, and upon arriving he jumped down and landed ahead of Ox. Thus, Ox became the second animal. Therefore, every decade, the first year is the year of the Rat, the 2nd being the year of Ox, and so on.
According to Chinese Astrology, twelve animals represent the Chinese zodiac signs wherein, each year represents a certain animal and its personality traits. This year, the ‘Year of the Ox’, supposed to bring stability and calmness. It is also said to be the year of great opportunities and economic prosperity.
The 12 zodiac animals in order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. That is why an Ox year occurs every 12 years.
The Year of the Ox has replaced the Year of the Rat i.e., 2020 which was filled with turbulence. The year 2020 witnessed the COVID-19 pandemic and economic shutdown around the world. Year of the Ox (2021) is predicted to provide stability. In Chinese culture, the Ox is a valued animal due to its role in agriculture, characteristics such as hardworking and honesty.
