A brand identity is what makes a brand unique and recognizable in the eyes of consumers. Creating a unique brand identity requires a good amount of thought processing and brainstorming. However, corporations often neglect the importance of a well-designed uniform.

A corporate uniform is way more than just a garment with a brand logo (refer to the importance of a uniform article). Take a close look at some of the key factors to keep in mind while designing a uniform.

  • Choose a good quality fabric that is apt for the field of work

Corporate uniforms are supposed to be durable and comfortable. Cutting costs on the fabric would not only cause displeasure and discomfort among employees but also generate additional expenses in the future, resulting from the wear and tear of low-quality products. Good quality products need not necessarily be expensive, one can acquire comfortable and durable fabrics from any reputed store at a reasonable price.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the fabric used and the overall design of the uniform needs to be in accordance with the field of work of the employees, the uniform design and fabric used for a food outlet employee would be different from someone working in the airlines. Work conditions and roles of the employee are important factors that must be taken into consideration while choosing fabric and the overall design and fit of the uniform.

  • Involve employees in the uniform designing process

Uniforms are meant for employees and hence, it is important to seek the suggestion of employees while designing a uniform. Neglecting this step could lead to a dissatisfied workforce, which would instantly affect the performance of a firm.

Another common mistake observed in corporate sectors is the ignorance towards the sizing of a uniform. A medium unisex size would not fit everyone and cause some serious discomfort among employees, it will also cause a significant impact on the performance of employees. It’s better to seek employee suggestions in the uniform designing process.

  • Thoughtful logo placement and attention to detail to create emphasis on the overall look of a uniform

Putting the brand logo on the upper half of the uniform goes without saying, but the experimentation with logo placement really makes a difference (refer to our logo placement article). Optimally using the brand color and logo in a uniform can drive the sales and visibility of your brand, considering that uniforms serve as a publicity tool for your brand. Personalizing the uniform with a name tag or employer id also creates a connection between employee and consumer.

Adding intricate details like embroideries, buttons, silhouettes, and cuts make a uniform stand out and add a classic look to your regular corporate uniform. Also, accessorizing your uniform with belts, gloves, ties and so on catch the attention of consumers and make the uniform look more appealing.

  • Choosing the right color palette for your brand is as important as the overall design of uniform

The color palette you choose for your brand should depict the essence of your brand. Picking colors from a brand logo is not a wise decision, since the colors in the logo are usually contrasting and bright. Ideally, the colors you pick for a uniform should be subtle and neutralized, you don’t want your employees to be wearing neon colors or bright contrasts. However, you cannot design a red uniform if your logo color and brand aesthetic are green. Use black or dark tones for employees who are indulged in mechanical work or on-field jobs. You can also pick tones that are contrasting with your logo.

  • Do prepare a budget for your uniform and adhere to it

It is likely to get carried away and overspend while designing a uniform. Preparing a realistic budget and sticking to it is important as it will prevent you from overspending and give direction to your purchases. Uniforms do not generate any sort of revenue directly and are subject to a lot of wear and tear, hence, it is important to spend optimally on uniform designing.

Designing a brand uniform is a difficult task. Follow these key points along with seeking the suggestions of your employees and team members to yield the best results. A uniform will not only assist in creating a brand image but also provides a sense of belongingness to your employees, it is advisable to have a professional on board to help you with all the complications of uniform designing and undergo trial and error before deciding on a uniform to avoid repeated cost of designing.
