The Ultimate Perfume Guide

The world of fragrance is quite diverse. There’s a whole list of products ranging from deodorants to colognes to perfumes and so on. From delightful fragrances of lilies, to the soothing fragrance of sandalwood there are tons of options to choose from.

There’s a different product for daily wear and special occasions, for men, women and even for kids, for sporty as well as casual vibes. Fragrances are known to affect ones mood and feelings, for example lavender fragrance is used to calm anxiety.

Perfumes and deodorants are mostly used for a lasting fragrance on a daily basis. We all have our favorite perfume or deo on our shelves that we can’t help but repeat everyday. But are you making these common mistakes while wearing perfume?

  1. Spraying too much perfume

Fragrances have 3 notes; the top note, heart and base. Top note bring the immediate fragrance, heart note is the fragrance followed by vanishing top note and finally the base note that lasts the longest. Perfumes and deodorants do not smell the same throughout the day and spraying more and more of it only makes the fragrance worse.

2. Rubbing the area with perfume

Second mistake that is unconsciously committed by most of us is rubbing wrists after applying fragrance. The friction caused by rubbing together the wrists after applying a fragrance heats up skin producing natural enzymes. This kills the initial crispness or freshness of fragrance.

Now, the most common fragrance sin is using perfume or deodorant on garments. Let us first understand the mechanism by which these products work. Fragrances, when they react with body heat, spread around in the environment somewhat in the same way incense sticks emit fragrance when lit. Applying perfume or deodorant on clothes not only kills the durability of fragrance but also harms the cloth due to the various chemicals used to compose these products.

3. Spraying it directly onto fancy clothes

Perfumes when sprayed on garments with embellishments tend to corrode the shiny top coat of the sequence and beads and the garment tends to lose its shine and sometimes color in the area which perfume has been sprayed on frequently

Note, that for the same reason the fragrance may not be the same on each person depending on the body heat.

Simple ways to fix these common mistakes:

To get perfume out of clothes, wash them as soon as they become saturated with a scent. However, for a tough stain, here are 3 methods that may come in handy:

Vinegar

Vinegar is the best go to for getting rid of perfume fragrance. It does not harm fabric and it is a green and sustainable method of cleaning. Add vinegar to your normal washing cycle and the stain would be gone after several washes.

Liquid Dishwash

As strange as it might sound, dishwashing liquid is effective in removing perfume or cologne stains from fabric. Mix a small amount of luke warm water, dishwasher and vinegar and dab it gently to the stained area, wash the fabric as usual. You’ll notice a considerable difference in the stain.

Proper storage

Lastly, while storing a perfume or deodorant, one must consider the environment and how it may affect the composition of the product. Ideally, perfumes are stored in room temperature (6⁶⁰F to 7⁵⁰F). Do not forget to close the lid of perfume and deodorant, else it might react with the environment, killing the natural fragrance.

● In addition to all this, do remember to refer to the instructions provided on the container for usage and storage.
